The intermittent drizzle definitely had a feel of sleet as the boys lined up for the second game. This one began as the first but with Joe Mitchell in the centre, Harry Knight at full back and Reece Garstin on the wing.

Rochford arrived in South Woodham with 11 players, an improvement on last week but still one short. South Woodham were playing a mixed team of mainly Under 11s but some Under 10s and were kind enough to lend us Tom to make up our numbers.

With Thurrock losing a player to injury it was agreed that the game would be 9 a-side with 3 in the scrum and 2 in the line-out. Louie from the Under 12s joined us to make up the Rochford numbers.

It was hard to believe that rugby is a winter sport as we headed out onto the pitch for the first match of the season in blazing sunshine. New rules, a second row, bigger line-outs and kicking, but one thing was the same, we were short of players.
